Faster To Any Charlottesville Disaster

January 2018 has created quite a whirlwind with the freezing temperatures causing frozen pipes to bust leaving a lot of residence as well as commercial building with water damage.

In this photo we have a 53' trailer full of equipment and we are loading our vehicles full getting ready to help the next customer.

No Power? No Problem. We Have a Trailer Generator

Our trailer generator has arrived and before it even made it to our warehouse it was already needed on a water loss where electricity had been turned off from being affected by the water damage.  Even though the power was turned off, our crews were still able to set up the necessary drying equipment in 3 apartment units to get them dried out in a timely manner because of this generator.

If you have water damage at your home or office and the power has been turned off due to safety concerns, call SERVPRO of Charlottesville.

Drying a Wall Cavity

In this picture an air mover had been placed at an upward angle to direct more air flow into the wall cavity.  While it is possible to dry a wall without removing any of it, in this scenario our team did a 2 foot flood cut in order to access and remove the saturated insulation within the wall.  Once the structure is dried, insulation and drywall will be reinstalled.

Final Take From Our "Extraction In Action" Photo

Here is the final outcome following our "Extraction In Action" (View-able on our Before/ After Photos page).  Notice the difference in the color of the floor after our crew completed the extraction of the concrete floor followed by a thorough steam cleaning.

Water Responds to Gravity

Water is known to take the path of least resistance and a water damage in your house is no exception to this fact.  On September 17, 2017 one of our crews responded to a water damage that had started on the second level of the home.  As you can see in this photo, the water managed to find it's way to these stairs on the main level that lead to the basement.

If you should have a water damage in your home leave no area unchecked.  This includes checking a basement or crawlspace even if the damage happened on the second level.  It is not uncommon for water to go through the walls and down the bottom level without showing any signs of affecting the main level.

Water Damaged Ceiling

If you have ever experienced a water damage in your home you may have seen this before.  This is what we call a water bubble in the ceiling.  Basically water has seeped down through your ceiling from the level above.  Unlike the ceiling, the paint acts as a vapor barrier not allowing the water to seep through and as a result, it creates what looks like a bubble.  However, there is only so much tension that the paint can withstand and eventually the water will break through the paint if enough water is weighing down on it.

If you see this happening in your home don't delay.  You need to find the source immediately and get it fixed before matters get worse.
