These rules apply to anyone who does work that involves disturbing painted surfaces, where toxic lead dust can be a health and safety hazard. For our blog about being a Lead-Safe Firm, click here.

Faster To Any Charlottesville Disaster

January 2018 has created quite a whirlwind with the freezing temperatures causing frozen pipes to bust leaving a lot of residence as well as commercial building with water damage.

In this photo we have a 53' trailer full of equipment and we are loading our vehicles full getting ready to help the next customer.

More Equipment has arrived to Charlottesville!

Over the past 2 weeks, the Charlottesville area has had below freezing temperatures and now that the temperature has gone back up we have received a lot of calls regarding water damage from frozen pipes that have busted.  With the high volume of calls that we have been receiving we have had to get more equipment brought in from our corporate office.  A whole 53' trailer full!

Florida & Virginia Teams Join Together

Due to the high volume of calls, not only have we had more equipment shipped to us but we have also had crew members from SERVPRO of Altamonte Springs come to help us.  This photo captures both crews working together loading up equipment getting ready to respond to more jobs.

Reinforcements to Help During Hurricane Florence

There's something reassuring about a large green trailer full of extraction and drying equipment when a storm is getting closer. We brought in multiple trailers of auxiliary equipment as Hurricane Florence was coming closer. They were sent to our sister franchise, SERVPRO of Lynchburg. So that when the call came in, we could be here to help as many homes and businesses as possible.

SERVPRO of Charlottesville Crews Doing What We Do Best

Our Production Manager is sketching and scoping the affected areas while our crews divide and conquer using the truck mounted extractor to remove any standing water and setting up our drying equipment to pull out the remaining moisture from the materials and air.

Water Saturated Carpet in Charlottesville

The carpet in this conference room was completely saturated after a pipe busted and spread water all throughout this office.  Notice how you can see dark shoe prints on the carpet from where someone had been walking and the water was surfacing on the carpet.

Drying Equipment Set Up in Conference Room

Local Charlottesville Business had a water damage that affected their conference room along with several other rooms and offices.  Our vibrant green industrial strength drying equipment allowed for this office to be back to preloss condition in a matter of days.

Small Pipe Causes Major Water Damage To Charlottesville Business

It is amazing how something so small can cause such a big mess.  This small pipe located under a sink in a Charlottesville business caused water damage throughout the entire building.

We've Got All The Drying Equipment You Need

This is a prime example of why SERVPRO is Faster to Any Size Disaster.

In May of 2018, Charlottesville and surrounding areas had a mass amount of rainfall which caused us to receive an extreme amount of calls from homeowners and business owners with flood damage.  Within a few hours, all of our industrial strength water restoration equipment was in use.  But that did not stop us, with a quick phone call to our neighboring franchise, SERVPRO of Lynchburg, we had more equipment delivered to us within a few short hours.

This photo was taken at a business located here in Charlottesville after our crews had completed the water mitigation and all of the equipment needed was being prepped for re-loading in our vehicles.

No Power? No Problem. We Have a Trailer Generator

Our trailer generator has arrived and before it even made it to our warehouse it was already needed on a water loss where electricity had been turned off from being affected by the water damage.  Even though the power was turned off, our crews were still able to set up the necessary drying equipment in 3 apartment units to get them dried out in a timely manner because of this generator.

If you have water damage at your home or office and the power has been turned off due to safety concerns, call SERVPRO of Charlottesville.

SERVPRO of Charlottesville is an IICRC Certified Firm

Not only do we take measures to ensure that our team members are certified within the services that we provide, but we also take the necessary steps to ensure that our franchise as a whole is recognized as an IICRC Certified Firm.

We are an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm

So what does it mean to be an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm?

The Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule establishes requirements for firms and individuals performing renovations, and affects contractors, property managers, and others who disturb painted surfaces.  It applies to work in houses, apartments, and child-occupied facilities (such as schools and day-care centers) built before 1978.  It includes pre-renovation education requirements as well as training, firm certification, and work practice requirements.

Drying a Wall Cavity

In this picture an air mover had been placed at an upward angle to direct more air flow into the wall cavity.  While it is possible to dry a wall without removing any of it, in this scenario our team did a 2 foot flood cut in order to access and remove the saturated insulation within the wall.  Once the structure is dried, insulation and drywall will be reinstalled.

Mold Growth on Sub Floor

On the main level of this home, no issue was noticed.  However, underneath the hardwood floors, microbial growth had been spreading.  When SERVPRO of Charlottesville crew members arrived to mitigate a water damage, their suspicions of the damage being more extensive than originally thought was confirmed when they went down to the basement to find the subfloor looking like this.

Setting Up Containment for Mold Remediation

This home was in need of Mold Remediation services on the main level and the basement.  Since the upstairs was unaffected, our crew members set up a containment barrier at the stairwell that lead upstairs prior for beginning the remediation process to ensure that upstairs remained unaffected.

Unlimited Equipment Access

This is a prime example of why SERVPRO can handle any water damage no matter how large it may be.  As you can see, this commercial loss needed quite a bit of equipment which was no problem for us as we have the ability to pull equipment from our corporate office, surrounding franchises, and our storm team franchises.  During this specific water loss (which happened during a large storm event) we had our corporate office bring us a 52 foot trailer full of equipment.

Bringing In The Big Generators

During our frozen pipe storm event of January 2018, our crews responded to a large commercial loss at a doctors office.  The power had been turned off due to safety hazards and in order to place the proper amount of equipment needed, we had to bring in not 1 but 2 56KW Diesel Generators which are shown in this picture.

Final Take From Our "Extraction In Action" Photo

Here is the final outcome following our "Extraction In Action" (View-able on our Before/ After Photos page).  Notice the difference in the color of the floor after our crew completed the extraction of the concrete floor followed by a thorough steam cleaning.

Freeze Storm Causes Water Damage at Charlottesville Doctor's Office

Due to the extreme cold temperatures that Charlottesville experienced in January of 2018 SERVPRO of Charlottesville, as well as many other franchises in Virginia and West Virginia, experienced quite a high volume of calls and this doctors office here in Charlottesville was one of them.

Mold Remediation Containment

Part of Mold Remediation involves keeping the high count of mold spores from spreading during the remediation.  Containing off the affected areas is one of the ways that we do that.  As you can see in this photo, our crews were able to do so simply by setting up containment in the doorway.  The black line down the center is a zipper which allows quick access in or out of the contained are with the ability to quickly reseal.

Containment For Mold Remediation

In this home, water damage occurred in the bathroom on the main level affecting the area in the basement directly underneath the bathroom.  In order to prevent the mold from spreading any further in the basement during the remediation process, our crews set up containment.  This picture was taken from inside the containment barrier where we have 2 air scrubbers set up and “scrubbing” the mold spores out of the air bringing the mold  spore count back to normal readings again.

Mold Remediation In Progress

In this photo, you can see one of our technicians hard at work cleaning the floor joists during a mold remediation loss after the severely affected flooring and sub-floor had been removed.

Mold Damage to Hardwood Floors

This photo was taken of hardwood floors that had water underneath them and in addition to the floors cupping, mold also began to make itself visible through the spaces between each plank of wood floor.

Re-Loading The Equipment Trailer

As the January 2018 frozen pipe storm event begins to wind down, all of the additional equipment we had shipped in from our corporate office is making it's way back into the 53' trailer that it was delivered in.

This event that we experienced is a true testimony to why SERVPRO is Faster to Any Size Disaster.

The Frozen Pipe Storm Is Over

For the start of 2018 Charlottesville was hit was freezing temperatures which then spiked up to warmer weather.  This caused a lot of pipes to freeze and then bust which resulted in an extremely high volume of water damages.  The volume was so high our whole team had to work long hours for 2 weeks straight

Water Responds to Gravity

Water is known to take the path of least resistance and a water damage in your house is no exception to this fact.  On September 17, 2017 one of our crews responded to a water damage that had started on the second level of the home.  As you can see in this photo, the water managed to find it's way to these stairs on the main level that lead to the basement.

If you should have a water damage in your home leave no area unchecked.  This includes checking a basement or crawlspace even if the damage happened on the second level.  It is not uncommon for water to go through the walls and down the bottom level without showing any signs of affecting the main level.

Water Damaged Ceiling

If you have ever experienced a water damage in your home you may have seen this before.  This is what we call a water bubble in the ceiling.  Basically water has seeped down through your ceiling from the level above.  Unlike the ceiling, the paint acts as a vapor barrier not allowing the water to seep through and as a result, it creates what looks like a bubble.  However, there is only so much tension that the paint can withstand and eventually the water will break through the paint if enough water is weighing down on it.

If you see this happening in your home don't delay.  You need to find the source immediately and get it fixed before matters get worse.

Breaker Box Causes Fire in Charlottesville Home

What you see pictured was the result of an outside breaker that had malfunctioned causing it to catch on fire.  Thankfully the fire managed to get put out rather quickly so the damaged caused was not majorly extensive.  Check out our Before/ After Photos to see what took place on the inside of this home.

Water Restoration Set Up

Large Water Restoration

This photo was taken during a large water loss that was actually caused from a small fire that set off sprinklers throughout 5 floors.  Tenants had to evacuate the building until the fire marshal finished investigating and SERVPRO completed the mitigation.

Responding to Restoration Needs In Charlottesville

On June 16th 2017, Production Manager - Chris Osborned received a call regarding a water/fire.  Not long after the call, Chris arrived on sight to scope the job and crew members showed up shortly after and immediately started the remediation process.  We take pride in our quick response to emergency needs.

Server Room Set-up

This photo was taken following a water loss that occurred in an office.  The room shown was the server room of which the customer had much concern considering the amount of electronics containing important business information that were in there.  Understanding the customers concern, our Crew Chief Ryan Mitchell made sure to pay extra careful attention to this room.  This included closing the door to this room making it a smaller space for the equipment to pull moisture from while other equipment had been set up outside of the room for the remaining affected areas that the customer did not have quite as much concern about.  In addition, Ryan preformed daily monitors to ensure all the equipment was functioning properly and that the equipment was not making the room too hot which could be harmful to the electronics.

Commercial Fire/Water Loss

This photo was taken at a large fire/water loss in West Virginia that our Charlottesville team was asked to help with.  Over 100 air movers and dehumidifiers were placed throughout the affected units.

Responding to a Large Loss

In this photo you can see 3 different franchises, SERVPRO of Charlottesville, SERVPRO of Beckley, and SERVPRO of Lynchburg/ Bedford & Campbell Counties, joining together on May 23, 2017 to restore a large loss caused by a fire that started in a unit on the fifth floor of the Hinton House (shown in the photo) which led to sprinklers being set off affecting at least 40 of the units.  American Red Cross has also joined in by providing food and shelter for those that were living in the Hinton House and have no family that they can go to for support.

Commercial Water Loss Equipment Set-Up

Here at SERVPRO of Charlottesville, we train our crews to handle a water loss at a residential level as well as a commercial level.  And did you know we have an unlimited source of equipment and helping hands?  Being part of a franchise system, we have the help and support of other surrounding franchises as well as from our corporate office.  No loss is too large for SERVPRO.

Water Damaged Conference Room

This photo was taken after our SERVPRO crew had extracted water out of the saturated carpet and our drying equipment had been set up to remove the rest of the moisture from the affected materials as well as the air.

It is very important to get excess moisture, brought on from a water damage, in materials as well as the surrounding air removed as quickly as possible to prevent further damage from occurring including the potential growth of mold.  That is why here at SERVPRO of Charlottesville we are committed to our 1, 4, 8 promise.

Equipment Setup at JAUNT

This photo was taken at JAUNT transportation during the emergency cleanup from a water loss.

Here is what they had to say about their experience with our team:

"Ryan was excellent in communicating the plan and everything everyday along the way."

Too Adorable Not To Share

While our technicians, Ryan and Joe, were working to restore a water loss at this customers home, they were being followed around by two very curious and absolutely adorable little girls.  As Ryan and Joe were packing up for the day, the two girls were outside by the van drawing with chalk on the driveway and this is what they drew.
